I have been a member of my neighborhood's book club for nearly 10 years. I was never an avid reader and this provided me with motivation to read at least one book a month. I also looked forward to the discussions and the social interaction. Unfortunately as neighbors moved or other things became priority, it was very difficult to get the group to attend even though it was just once a month. I will really miss it, so I decided to try and do a virtual book club through my blog. Once a month I will select a book, and at the end of the month will open it up for discussion and we also announce the book for the next month.
For our first book I am selecting "The Invention of Wings" by Sue Monk Kidd. She is also the author of "The Secret Life of Bees" and "The Mermaid Chair", which I have also read. I actually selected this book for our last meeting so it is fresh in my memory. We will open up for discussion/comments and select the next book on December 1st.
I know many of you probably use a kindle, I'm kind of old school and usually buy the book. Other great sources are the library, amazon or ebay. Also, I LOVE the CD audio books. You might want to try that if you're in the car often. They are a bit more expensive, so it's great to find one at the library, or even consider selling them back via Amazon or ebay.
I'm not sure exactly how to pull this off, so I will make it up as I go. I hope you will join me in this new venture. Please feel free to offer up any suggestions for going forward.
